Vernon Allen Umgelder Jr. Remembered for Love of Family and Traditions

Vernon Allen Umgelder Jr., born on April 30, 1943, passed away at his home in New Lenox, IL, on Sunday, November 10, 2024. Joining his beloved bride, Wanda Umgelder, in the afterlife, Vernon is survived by his daughter Cheryl (Troy) Downing, son Scott Umgelder, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, siblings, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Renowned for his passion for quilting, sewing, camping, gardening, and traditions, Vernon cherished family gatherings and organized New Year's Eve parties for his grandchildren. Embracing the joy of music, he enjoyed singing country tunes, dancing, and participating in the church choir. An amiable host, Vernon's warm embrace welcomed all.

Visitation will be at the Fedde-Helfrich-Cross Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 13, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a subsequent funeral service on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. Following the service, Vernon will be laid to rest at Chapel Hill Gardens South in Oak Lawn, IL.
