Students and teachers in Illinois have the opportunity to participate in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey, which runs from February 18th to March 28th. This survey aims to provide a comprehensive view of school effectiveness by gathering insights from students, teachers, and parents.
The Illinois State Board of Education has tasked UChicago Impact at the University of Chicago with administering the survey online. The survey focuses on five key indicators that are believed to predict student success: effective leaders, collaborative teachers, involved families, supportive environments, and ambitious instruction.
Research involving over 400 schools indicates that those strong in at least three of these indicators are significantly more likely to see improvements in student learning gains in math and reading.
Teachers and students from fourth through twelfth grade will be participating. Schools will receive 5Essentials Reports if they achieve a response rate threshold of 50 percent among their teachers or students. These reports will be available in May and included in the State School Report Card.
Peotone CUSD 207U is also offering an optional parent survey supplement. A parent report will be generated for any school building where at least 20 percent of parents complete this survey. However, parent data will not appear on the State Report Card.
Participation is confidential; identities and responses will not be linked back to individuals or their children. The Parent Survey Supplement is available during the same period as the main survey. To participate, visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/.
