Peotone Community Unit School District 207U has announced that the Miles of Smiles dental program will return this year, providing free dental services to students who submit a signed permission slip. The initiative is open to all grade levels and is designed to help students meet Illinois state requirements for dental examinations in kindergarten, second, sixth, and ninth grades.
The district’s school nurses explained that the dental team will visit in March, with exact dates yet to be determined. Available services include exams, cleanings, fluoride treatments, and sealants on appropriate molars to help prevent future tooth decay.
According to the district's communication, "Dental examinations are a state law for Illinois students entering kindergarten, second, sixth, and ninth grade. This program offers FREE dental services to ANY student who turns in a permission slip for any grade level."
School officials also noted that these exams fulfill the state's requirement if completed within 18 months before the May 15 deadline. This applies both to current students in required grades and those entering these grades for the 2026-2027 academic year.
Consent forms are available online in English and Spanish through provided links or QR codes included in district communications. Additional information about the program can be found on the Miles of Smiles website at www.milesofsmilesltd.com or by contacting school offices at designated phone numbers.
The announcement was signed by Peotone District School Nurses Sarah Bolin (BSN, RN), Monica Cowger (BSN, RN), Jaclyn Murray (LPN), and Dawn Mahalik (District Nurse Clerk).
