Peotone school district schedules public hearing on proposed property tax increase

A public hearing regarding a proposed property tax levy increase for Peotone Community Unit School District 207U is scheduled for December 15, 2025. The meeting will take place at 6:00 pm at Peotone High School, located at 605 West North Street in Peotone, Illinois.

According to district figures, corporate and special purpose property taxes extended or abated for the year 2024 totaled $14,808,198.43. The proposed amount to be levied for these purposes in 2025 is $15,657,873.00. This represents a 5.74% increase from the previous year.

For debt service and public building commission leases, property taxes extended in 2024 were $1,998,334.54. The estimated amount to be levied for these purposes in 2025 is $1,995,825.00—a decrease of approximately 0.13% compared to last year.

The total property taxes extended or abated for all purposes in the district during 2024 were $16,806,532.97. The estimated total to be levied for the upcoming year is $17,653,698.00—an overall increase of about 5.04%.

A final decision on the proposed tax levy will follow input received during the public hearing.
